Beach Wheelchair Hire
Access through the pinewoods and onto the beach can be challenging for wheelchair users and those with limited mobility.
The beach wheelchair can make access possible for many visitors, but some areas require significant effort from accompanying attendants, particularly on softer sand and steeper gradients.
The ramp leading onto the dog-free side of the beach is generally manageable when travelling downhill, however visitors should be aware that the return journey may require considerable assistance and physical effort.
We have included videos showing the route from the car park to the huts, the beach ramp and surrounding pathways to help visitors make an informed decision before travelling.
Accessing the beach
From beach road car park through the pinewoods to access the dog friendly side.
From beach road car park to the ramp by the RNLI site to access the no dog side.
The following huts are closest to the car park and the step free access to the beach via the ramp on the no dog side of the beach with the least steps.
The most accessible huts we can offer:
If you require a dog friendly beach hut and have watched the video to see the terrain through the pinewoods then we would recommend the following as it is closest to the ramp which means the least walking on the sand.
Step free access to the beach
Visitors can access the beach without using steps via:
✓ Tarmac slope from Beach Road car park running adjacent to the beach cafe past the RNLI site
✓ Then there is a Step-free boardwalk to the dog-free side of the beach
✓ To access the dog friendly side we would recommend heading through the pinewoods to the ramp by the second set of toilets, however please be aware:
-
Sand conditions vary daily.
-
The ramp can be steep in places.
-
The dog-friendly side involves uneven woodland paths.
